Little went right for the Algerians in Polokwane on Sunday, June 13, 2010, when they faced up against Slovenia in their Group C 1st round match of the 2010 World Cup. To make things worse, their goalkeeper – Faouzi Chaouchi – made a catastrophic error in allowing a tame shot to sneak past him for the only goal of the game.

Match: England vs. USA
In what must be regarded as the mistake of his life, and with his team leading 1-0, England goalie Robert Green somehow managed to fumble a tame shot from the USA’s Clint Dempsey, and the ball trickled agonizingly into the back of the net. Several England goalkeepers from the past (including Scott Carson, Paul Robinson and David Seaman) have all had terrible blunders, but none of the lot was quite a hapless as Green’s mishandling of Clint Dempsey’s goal. France faced Italy in the 2006 final of the 2006 World Cup, and in that match, French captain Zinedine Zidane had the indignity of being sent off in extra-time, after he headbutted Italian defender Marco Materazzi, who Zidane alleged insulted a family member. The match went to penalties, and Italy won the penalty shootout 5-3. The infamous Zidane headbutt is featured below.
